END OF YEAR MESSAGE TO STAFF OF LWC
Fellow Staff of LWC;
Another year in our lives is drawing to a close. Sadly, not all who started this year 2007 are still with us. As we celebrate, let us spare some moments in our silent corners to remember these departed colleagues.
2007 has been a momentous year, with the beginning of a new administration headed by our Governor, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN). It has been a year of hopes, aspirations, challenges, and achievements; though checkered by some short comings. In the words of one of our great world leaders, - “Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure…… than rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”
We must be hold an take definitive steps to improve the lot of the corporation which has so much potential to be the envy of other state water agencies in the nation. No doubt, the challenges are numerous, but we can collectively rise up to them if only we dare to challenge our thinking beyond the limited scope.
Operation verify which was started in July in Ikoyi as a revenue management tool, opened the window for us to see challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We have all seen that with unity of purpose and selfless dedication to duty revenue targets can be attained and surpassed.
Year 2008, will see more aggressive challenges to improve on operations. We will commence the metering of properties in partnership with the private sector, construction of 15 new waterworks, and construction of a dedicated power plant for sustainable production. Water supply will attain a level which our dear state had never seen!
We must be ready to convert these investments being entrusted to us through the initiative of His Excellency to revenue for the sustainability of water supply and survival of the corporation in all we do. After all, how many state water agencies in the nation or West Africa can boast of similar challenges and opportunities?
I am pleased to inform you all, that we should be getting delivery of the ling awaited staff buses in the next few weeks. I take the opportunity to thank you for your forebearance with the old staff buses especially during breakdowns in the rain.
I appeal to all that we roll up our sleeves and put all hands on deck. Let it be said in our twilight years – we took the road less travelled; and that has made all the difference!
Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year.
Thank You.
