Sources of Water
There are three (3) main sources of fresh water as follows:
OGUN RIVER : The live wire of the corporation. It feeds 72mgd raw water to Adiyan Waterworks and 45mgd to Iju Waterworks. To keep the raw water pumping for 24 hours, the intake complex is supported by four standby industrial generators, to forestall power outage.
OTTA IKOSI : The hydrology of River Aye was studied and found that its minimum flows were sufficient to cope with future raw water demand.
RIVER OWO: The sources of fresh water for Ishasi Waterworks.
The major waterworks are supported by several mini and micro waterworks supplied by boreholes.
It is an established fact that our water is safe, clean, germ free (conforms with World Bank Health Organisation's Standard) and cheaper compared to other alternative sources of water.
We advise that you watch the quality of water you drink to avoid water borne diseases such as:
Typhoid
Hepatitis
Dysentery
Cholera
What you should know
Our water tariff (N50) per m 3 for meeting all your domestic household needs is equivalent to the cost of 1000 litres (5 drums) of water.
Illegal connections through drains result in sewage intrusion when drains become full. This is often responsible for the contamination of pipe borne water. Whenever observed, please have a qualified plumber check your service line.
Should you continuously experience water scarcity, please have a plumber check your domestic supply line as this might have been tampered with.
Poor electricity supply reduces production by about 60%, hence water pressure in the pipeline is low.
Water vendors are warned to desist from tampering with valves and other properties of the Corporation, as this is a criminal offence punishable under the law. We appeal to the general public to be vigilant and report to the police, anybody suspected of tampering with LWC appurtenances.
